Qype: Island Cafe in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Cafes & Coffee Shops

The Island Cafe was a bit disappointing to be honest. I was promised free wifi by Qype Radar and was duly handed my login and password after ordering eggs and tea (which were decidely average). Imagine my consternation when i discovered the only place i could get a connection was out on the street! I tried for about 15 minutes to pick up a glimmer of connectivity in the cafe, but to no avail.

If you pride yourself on your free wifi, make sure it works :)

Qype: Sun Sun Chinese Restaurant in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Restaurants - Chinese

Good ol' Sun Sun. Fast, half decent chinese food at rock bottom prices. This is the place where you dine if you've only got a fiver and don't particularly fancy Mcdonalds, KFC or a Kebab.

I can highly recommend the sweet and sour pork balls or the chicken in black bean sauce. Exactly what you'd expect. This is not Hakassan, but when you're in the mood for a chinese takeaway (and you'r in Clapham) this isw a strong bet.

Qype: The Vauxhall Griffin in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Pubs & Bars - Pubs

Now this is a good pub.

The Vauxhall Griffin has everything a good Sunday pub should have. Excellent roast dinners, newspapers stacked on the bar, soft chairs, a quiz machine, a pool table, 100s of board games, free wifi and great bar staff. It's a real hidden treasure and i feel a bit bad letting everyone know about it!

Decor is fantastic and very well done (old copies of NME plaster the walls along with cabinets stuffed with Thundercats Annuals and Southpark dolls). There is also a very nice little courtyard area which is going to be perfect in the summer!

The Griffin is not a party pub. If this is what you are after, head down to Clapham High Street. If you're interested in quality food, comfortable surroundings and somewhere you can do the crossword without someone staring down their nose at you - This is the place.

An easy 5 stars and possibly my new favourite pub south of the river.

Qype: Zoo Bar in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Pubs & Bars - Bars

Bit of a tourist trap. I'd say an evening at Zoo Bar is probably one up from The Walkabout (so not very good). Very mixed, international crowd and extremely unimaginative decor and layout. A pint of gassy lager will set you back about £5 and, like me, you will no doubt have to queue for 15 minutes to put your coat in.

Come on people. You're in central London - There are 100's better places to go after midnight in our nations capital!

Qype: La Cave A Fromage London Ltd in London

London - Shopping - Food & Drink - Cheese Shops

Ohhhhhh.... yeah! That's is some damn fine cheese.

Let's get one thing straight I bloody love cheese. And not just posh cheese. I will eat everything from plastic cheddar and Aerosol smokey bacon goo to the finest smelly gruyere's and stilton's.

La Cave Fromage has it all and I was lucky enough to attend the Qype Guru event last night and sample some of the finest cheeses and wines they have to offer. I really wish i could remember the names of all the different cheeses.... but i can't. But, I can remember their numbers! Number 1 (goats cheese with honey) was definitely my favourite - smooth, tangy and amazing with a little drizzle of honey.

We were very very well looked after last night so many thanks to the gang at La Cave Fromage and to @inspirationjunkie /inspirationjunkie for organizing the event.

I'll be back!

Qype: Wessex House in London

London - Nightlife - Clubs

Ahhh... Wessex House. The place everyone goes if they have exhausted Inferno's and The Clapham Grand. Famed for its Salsa nights (which i'm actually told are quite good) and late night boozing, you're almost certain to come across the lower minions of Clapham in this club opposite the station.

Word of advice - get very, very drunk beforehand if you want to go in here. This place can only be enjoyed if you're in good company and on the west side of 6-7 cocktails!

Qype: Movida in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Pubs & Bars - Bars

Exclusive and Expensive sums up Movida pretty well. Judging from the queues and masses of people trying to get in here after midnight, this place is pretty darn popular.

2 things i don't like about Movida -

i) Drinks are frickin' expensive. 4 cocktails = at least £60.

ii) Seats - If you don't pay for a seating area, you probably won't get a chance to sit down.

2 things i like about Movida -

i) Decent Music - They were playing some awesome 80's electro in here on Friday night. Sounds naf, but it was actually really good.

ii) Pretty girls. That's right, this place attracts the hotties.

I will probably go back to Movida, but i will have to consult my bank manager first.

Fun, but certainly not frugal fun.

Qype: Crussh in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Cafes & Coffee Shops - Juice, Shakes & Smoothies

Excellent smoothies. The crushberry blast with extra strawberries is particularly good. Food is a bit too healthy for my liking. Organic soups, bean pots, detox salads etc. Good if you're trying to keep fit i suppose.

The loyalty scheme is a bit of a joke. By 10 smoothies and get one smoothie free. 10! Seems a bit much to me.

Anyway, i will keep going back as the juices and smoothies are some of the best in town!

The best ribs in London

I'm on a quest at the moment. Can i find the best ribs in London? To date, I have to go with the Big Easy Crabshack in Chelsea. They even have a rib eating competition!

Anywhere else folks recommend?

Qype: The Endurance in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Restaurants - Beer Garden - Eating & Drinking - Pubs & Bars - Pubs

I'm told the food (and particularly the roasts) at The Endurance are out of this world. Annoyingly, last night was just a drinking affair. Next time i'll be sure, at the very least, to order a pickled egg. Good selection of beers and particularly bustling and friendly crowd. This pub is just off of Berwick street market so a perfect watering hole for the thirsty shopper.

I'll be back!

Qype: Pierre Victoire Restaurant in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Restaurants - French

My meal at Pierre Victoire last night was surprisingly good. I'd been to the Oxford branch (many moons ago) and remember it being ok, but certainly nothing to write home about. Well... i've been raving about this place all of today, so they've obviously up their game in London! The falafel and hummus starter was tasty and fresh and the corn fed chicken main course really hit the spot. All washed down with a bottle of Chateau Neuf, this meal is agonizingly close to 5 stars. The only thing holding it back is the service. It was good, but i didn't feel "very well looked after". The bill came to about £100 for 3, so not cheap, but worth it if it's a special occasion (or if you're just feeling spontaneous!).

I will definitely be going back.

Qype: Pho in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Restaurants - Other Asian

Wow! That's some damn fine soup. Everything seems to work well with Pho on Great Titchfield Street. Lots of seating space, friendly staff and delicious noodles and soup. I plumped for the bog standard chicken noodle soup which was actually very good. You're given bean sprouts and chillies on the side so you can make your soup as thick or spicy as you like. Mine was actually perfect as it came.

At £6.50 for a main course (very filling) it's very hard to fault this little Vietnamese treat.

Qype: Food Secret in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Restaurants - International

Hmmm... Food Secret just feels a little bit "unfinished". If i were the manager i would have spent this period of time polishing all the rough edges, making sure the technology worked etc. etc. Ho hum - the food is actually pretty good. I opted for the spicy Asian soup which was delicious, but spicy as hell! Next time i will be tailor making my soup instead of picking one up from the fridge!

All in all a decent place. Give it a month or 2 before you check it out. Hopefully by then the touch screens will be working correctly, the projectors bright and the signage hung and gleaming!

Good luck to em'.

Qype: Make Mine in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Cafes & Coffee Shops

Really, really good sandwiches actually. Top notch salads too. I can highly recommend the Cajun sarnie on ciabatta or the new yorker (both delicious). Oh, hangover breakfast - Try "The Gaffer" sandwich - sausage, egg, mushrooms, bacon... mmmmmm, lovely.

All in all a fantastic place for breakfast and lunch.

Qype: The Telegraph in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Pubs & Bars - Pubs

"A country pub in London" is how The Telegraph describes itself, and rightly so, the pub is smack bang in the middle of Putney Heath and it really does feel like you are outside the M25.

The Telegraph is great for families (hundreds of young families with 2 year olds called Toby) and they have baby changing facilities, high chairs etc. etc. The pub is also right on the Heath, so plenty of space for the little ones to run and around.

The pub itself is very large and is certainly benefiting from its multi-million pound makeover (it was pretty packed). Lots of cornish real ale on tap and the staff (on a whole) were very friendly and helpful. My only gripe with The Telegraph is the fact they ran out of Sunday Roasts so quickly! All roast were gone by the time we arrived, so i had to settle for bangers and mash (which was nice, but not amazing - too much mash, not enough banger!). I'll definitely be going back though. This place is going to be awesome in the summer and the location in itself earns this place 4 stars.

Qype: The Soho Pizzeria in London

London - Eating & Drinking - Restaurants - Italian & Pizza

Unexpectedly good. The Soho Pizzeria delivers well on all fronts. Excellent live jazz music, quick and attentive service and delicious pizzas. The portion sizes may disappoint a few people (these are definitely NOT bicycle wheels sized pizzas) but they are delicious.

A perfect spot for late night dining, particularly after a few beers in the Red Lion just around the corner!

Qype: Chilango in London

London

I was slightly nervous when i took the first bite of my steak burrito in Chilango last night. One of the owners (Dan) was watching me with a keen eye as I peeled back the foil - "Please don't be bad. Please don't be bad" I thought. Thankfully, it was in fact superb. One of the best burritos i have had in London (If not the best). The steak was tender. The guacamole fresh. The cheese tangy and the tortilla soft. I must have wolfed down the whole thing in less than 5 minutes. At £6, this has got to be the best value burrito in town.

Best of luck to Dan and Eric. I'm sure the Upper Street branch will be a roaring success. My only suggestion to our Chilango friends is.....OPEN YOUR NEXT BRANCH IN THE WEST END! I NEED A NEW LUNCH SPOT!
