Qype: Kasbah du Toubkal in Marrakech

Marrakech

I didn't get a chance to stay here when i visited Morocco (it's super expensive for Morocco) but we did take a day trip here (travelling by mule i might add) and i was blown away by the views from the Kasbah du Toubkal. This place is said to have the best rooftop views in North Africa and i would struggle to disagree with this. We stopped for mint tea and lunch here and we must have spent 3-4 hours soaking up the views and relaxing in the winter sunshine. The staff were very friendly and, if you are trekking in the High Atlas, you should really try and stop here for lunch or dinner.

I think the pictures speak for themselves!

Qype: Vondelpark in Amsterdam

Amsterdam - Arts & Entertainment - Parks

Wow, quite mixed reviews so far. How can the Vondelpark only get 1*! I think this is one of the finest city parks in Europe. Perfect for biking around and great for chilling out in or just playing frisbee. We came here with a group of friends last summer and had a wonderful picnic. It's a great place to escape to particularly if you are sick off the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

Qype: Ben Crouch's Tavern in London

London - Pubs & Bars - Bars - Cocktail Bars

Now this is an unusual place......

As the astute Qypers below have mentioned, Ben Crouch's is named after the infamous graverobber of the 19th century. I'd love to give you more info about Mr. Crouch but Wikipedia has let me down :( I think we'll just have to assume he was a very bad man.

The pub itself is decked out liked a haunted house. Gargoyle's, mad scientists and ghouls make up the majority of the decor. Oh, and when you flush the loo you get a screaming noise or a witches cackle. The staff in here were all dressed in school uniform last night (not really sure why) and the punters were either 1) watching the football 2) Dressed up in goth gear 3) Celebrating someones 30th birthday. 4) Rocking out to Guns n' Roses which was being played on the jukebox (kudos points here).

Beer prices were pretty standard and they had a couple ales on. I haven't tried the food in here but the menu looks very Wetherspoonsish. I won't be rushing back, but they have plenty of seats and a decent quiz machine so i won't completely write it off.

Qype: Cyber Candy in London

London - Food & Drink - Sweets & Chocolates

This place is AWESOME. I just spent £50 in here. That's right £50. I don't feel guilty at all :)

I had so much fun picking out the sweets (and i got some pretty funny looks too with my armful of Haribo, Pop rocks, Reeses Pieces and Jolly Ranchers). "Do you work here?" one girl asked. "No". I answered. But i kinda wish i did...... I could fill bath tubs full of skittles and re-enact Indian Jones moments with a red rope liquorice whip and a marshmallow chapeau.

OK, i'm getting carried away now.

Cybercandy is fantastic. Mecca for those with a sweet tooth or American's looking for a slice of home. Highly recommended, teeth-rotting fun.

Qype: Candy Cakes in London

London - Cafes & Coffee Shops - Cafes

I was also lucky enough to be hand delivered a Candy Cake the other day. One word - Awesome. Not only was the frosting sweet and delicious, the cupcake also had a lolly down the middle of it. Now if that doesn't float your boat, i don't know what will.

Qype: Breakfast Club in London

London - Cafes & Coffee Shops - Cafes

One of the best breakfasts i have had in London. The American brekky came with pancakes, maple syrup, 2 giant sausages, bacon, poached eggs and hash browns. Delicious! I also had a fantastic berry smoothie which did wonders for my hangover! Service was good (considering how quickly this place fills up in the morning) and i loved all the movie memorabilia on the wall.

Walking distance from Angel and Highbury & Islington tube stations. I will definitely be coming back!

Qype: Homebase Ltd in London

London - Shopping - Garden Centres

I'm really not too fond of DIY stores. When god was handing out home assembly abilities i was at the back of the queue. I have vague memories of putting together a dining room set when i was a teenager and then that evening my grandmother falling to the floor as one of the chairs snapped beneath her. I also tried to assemble a barbecue in Hamburg recently which was a complete disaster. So as you can imagine, i was a little bit nervous when my brother and I went into homebase to pick up a grill for my birthday. We found an absolute bargain - £19.99 for a full size BBQ. Assembly time 15 minutes. Brilliant! The staff were helpful and the check out queue was tiny (for a saturday).

Amazingly we assembled the barbecue in no time at all (Although we didn't quite hit the 15 minute target) and the barbecue still stands in one piece. :)

Qype: The Florence in London

London - Restaurants - Thai

This little pub is nestled just behind the Shell Garage on Upper Street. Now this may not sound idyllic, but it's actually a very nice little boozer. Friendly staff, lots of tables and plenty of real-ale on tap. I only wish i could remember a little bit more of the night.... :)

Qype: Thai Pin in London

London - Restaurants - Thai

A very affordable Thai restaurant just around the corner from Covent Garden. There are 2 set lunch menus at Thai Pin - £6.50 (2 courses) and £8.50 (3 courses). I started with Tom Yum soup and had the green curry for my main course. Portion sizes were perfect (and an absolute bargain for £6.50). Quality of food was good, but not great. We felt well looked after, but i should think so given we were the only ones in the restaurant!

Qype: The Rainbow Inn in Cairns

Cairns

After battling through the Aussie outback and picking fruit in a godforsaken place called Innisfail, i was ready for some affordable TLC. The Rainbow Inn as about 1km outside of Cairns ans is the perfect place for a penniless traveller to veg out and relax away from the backpacker tourist trail. For what you would pay for a twin room in a bog standard hostel, you can get a beautiful air conditioned, poolside room. This really is a hidden gem for the gap year student looking for some comforts while away from home. Great pool (with jacuzzi), great bar and super friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Qype: Blazing Saddles in San Francisco

San Francisco

This is THE place to rent bikes in downtown San Francisco. Located just by Fisherman's Wharf, this rental shop is really well placed for a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge. Bike rental is relatively cheap ($9 per hour or $40 for 24 hours) and they give you all the gear like helmets and even rubber bands for your trousers. Really friendly staff and the perfect way to see the city! Highly recommended.

Qype: The Blue Post in London

London - Pubs & Bars - Pubs

Didn't actually get a chance to go inside this pub the other night but i did loiter on the pavement outside with a pint (from the pub of course). So my review isn't of the pub interior, it's actually of the kerb on Berwick street! A pretty reasonable place for Al fresco drinking actually. Lot's of room and very little traffic after 8pm. We even managed a little game of frisbee after the first couple! But beware, if you stray onto the road too much, the landlord will come out and bark at you. Don't say you haven't been warned!

Check out my review of The Blue Post - I am ahunter - on Qype

Qype: The Rapscallion in London

London - Restaurants - Gourmet

A very decent little restaurant opposite the Clapham Picturehouse on Venn Street. The service was very good in here last night. We felt well looked after for the entire evening. The rib eye steak was tender and juicy and came with a generous portion roast potatoes and mixed veg. The cheese board afterwards was great and came with some particularly good cheddar, olives and grapes!

The only thing letting this place down is the size of the dining area (tiny) and the subsequent noise. Still, it was quite nice eavesdropping on the couples conversation next door to us. Apparently Boris Johnson is already doing a stellar job, it's going to rain at Ascot on Friday and the refrigerator light keeps on flickering, so we'll need to get it changed :)

Qype: United Parcel Service in London

London

Really disappointing experience with UPS this week. It took them 3 attempts to deliver a package to me! Don't these guys understand the importance of Qype goodies!? :)

Customer service on the phone was slow and i didn't feel like they could answer any of my questions with a valid answer. Delivery guy didn't apologize for the delay either. Next time i will be using a different provider.

Qype: Steers in Johannesburg

Johannesburg - Restaurants - Fast Food & American

I love Steers! Really pleased to discover this on Qype.

I used to spend alot of time in Cape Town and Steers was always a late night fast food place my younger brother and I would hit in the early hours. Great burgers, greasy chips and special sauce to die for. Lovely jubbly!

Qype: Albert & Pearl in London

London - Restaurants

I'm glad Tinks reviewed this place because i had completely forgotten the name of it! Excellent cocktails and a nice little function room with a bar upstairs. Great place for a private party. The staff were very friendly and we never had to wait longer than a couple of minutes to be served. This is a proper upper street bar, so don't expect to find any real ale or pork scratchings :)

Qype: Archbishop's Park Tennis Court in London

London

Yet another awful tennis facility in the borough of Lambeth. It really annoys me that the council have let these sports grounds fall into such disrepair. The court surface itself was very poorly maintained. I basically had the San Andreas fault running across my service box (making well placed serves very difficult to return!). The perimeter fence looked on it's last legs and (again) overgrown trees interfered with play.

That's it. I give up. I'm joining a private club. :(

Qype: King William Iv in Cranbrook

Cranbrook - Pubs & Bars - Pubs

The William has been a fixture of "The Street" for as long as i can remember. The food is good (but pricey) and they have a great beer garden out back. You won't find Fosters or Carling in here. Instead, there is a good selection of Ales and some interesting continental lagers. The staff are always friendly and i usually drop in whenever i am in Benenden. When i'm not in The Bull, this is where you'll find me..... :)

Qype: Brick Lane in London

London - Restaurants - Indian

Brick Lane is THE place for curry. If you are new to London and you are looking to sample some Indian food, you be hard pressed to find a better spot than this. I love haggling for my dinner on Brick Lane. I once managed to get all you can eat for 10 people with 2 beers each for £8. Now if that isn't a bargain i don't know what is.

Aside from the food, The Brick Lane market is also great fun on Sunday mornings. The market is open until 1pm and is full of all sorts. If you're looking to get a cheap second hand bike, you should either pop down here or go to Gumtree.com. I can't vouch for the legality of the bike trade on Brick lane though!

Qype: The Famous Cock Tavern in London

London - Pubs & Bars - Pubs

By far the most famous cock in London - tee hee. I'm sorry, i had to do it!

I popped in here very briefly on friday evening to catch up on the football scores. I didn't have a chance to grab a beer, but the toilets were great and they have quite a few screens up for the Euro 2008 footy. Staff seemed friendly and the food looked half decent from the looks of things. I won't rush back, but if you are near Highbury and Islington tube and looking to watch the match, this could be the place for you.

Qype: Ponti's Caffe in London

London

At first glance this place looks a bit soulless, but they actually do a killer fried breakfast. I was feeling a bit fragile on saturday morning and after doing a bit of shopping i was dying for some food. The Ponti's breakfast comes with the works and could easily satisfy 2 people. Sausages, tomatoes, eggs, bacon, beans, mushrooms, hash browns and more. At £6.50 this is a real bargain. If you're in town and you're looking for a quick, but huge meal, i'd definitely recommend these guys.

Qype: Lowlander Grand Cafe in London

London - Cafes & Coffee Shops - Cafes - Pubs & Bars - Pubs

Awesome selection of beers. Much better than Bierodrome (but much more expensive). I found myself sipping on a Maredesous last night which was delicious. The food in here is also pretty good. A burger will set you back about £10 but it's well worth it. Watch out for the 8.5% beers. They'll destroy you!

Qype: Last FM in London

London - Services - Media

Last.FM is now one of my favourite websites. The radio stations are very intelligent and the events concept is really cool (and used widely across Europe). With the death of Pandora.com, this is now my first port of call for music and to meet people who are into the same kind of stuff as me.

Qype: Naturbad im Stadtpark in Hamburg

Hamburg - Arts & Entertainment - Parks

A decent place to soak up the rays and go for a swim on a warm summers day. Plenty of space for sun bathing outside of the "Naturbad" encloser (but watch out for the nudists!) and lots of room to swim. This is a real family place and is obviously very popular with Hamburgers. Great view of the Planeterium too! Definitely worth checking out.

Qype: Die Eisheiligen in Hamburg

Hamburg - Cafes & Coffee Shops - Ice Cream Parlours

Excellent ice cream and very friendly service. The woman (who i presume is the owner) is fairly comical and didn't quite grasp the fact that we don't speak very good German! Nice to sit outside this place on a warm sunny day (right next door to toast bar as well which is one of the best bars in Hamburg).

I can highly recommend french vanilla and chocolate chip. Delicious!

Qype: Da Leonardo in Hamburg

Hamburg - Restaurants - Italian & Pizza

I have definitely written a review of Da Leonardo before. I'm a little bit concerned that someone may have deleted my review! Grrrr....

Anyway, just a quick note reiterate what's said below. Excellent pizza and great service. They're also showing all of the Euro 2008 games here (outside) so it's an awesome place to watch the footy this summer!

Qype: Maharaja in Hamburg

Hamburg - Restaurants - Indian

Let me give you a bit of background here. I have been looking for a good Indian restaurant in Hamburg for about 6 months now. Germany seems to really be lacking quality Indian restaurants with good food, good service and decent prices. When i walked into Maharaja i was very excited indeed. No English reviews, but every German had given this place a glowing review. 5*s across the board. We were immediately served by a very friendly waiter and the Kingfishers arrived fairly quickly. My standard test of an Indian restaurant is Chicken Tikka Masala, rice and Garlic Naan and this is exactly what i ordered. The food came quickly and was BEAUTIFULLY presented. Unfortunately, it all really lacked the flavours i have grown used to in the UK. Portions were small (a particularly sorry look naan bread) and the curry really lacked any punch. Oh well, I guess my quest continues to find the ultimate indian in Hamburg. Maharaja wins on service, drinks, atmosphere but is let down by the food. Damn.

Qype: Merjis in Bedford

When it comes to internet marketing, these guys are Top Dogs. Experts in SEO, SEM and web analytics. I have used Merjis at 3 different companies and would highly recommend them to friends and business associates alike. I've never been on any of their training courses, but i'm sure they are excellent.

Qype: Davinchi's in Tunbridge Wells

Tunbridge Wells - Pubs & Bars - Bars

Oh dear, i'm reviewing Dav's....

But it's actually not called Dav's anymore. It's now - Beluga Nightclub. Crazy times :)

Davinchi's has been kicking around for about 25 years now and and has recently had a multi million quid facelift (and it's much bigger now too). This was the stomping ground of my youth. We used to take the bus from School (I was 18 of course!) on a saturday afternoon and hit Dav's later on in the evening after traipsing around the bars of TW. I have Fond memories of drinking late into the night here and also being turned away countless times for sporting inappropriate footwear by bouncers with attitude problems .

If you're between 18 and 40, and you live in Tunbridge Wells, you'll know Dav's already so i needn't go on!

Qype: Gröninger Braukeller in Hamburg

Hamburg - Pubs & Bars - Pubs - Restaurants - German

This is Man food. Schnitzel, Pork Belly, thick cut potatoes and plenty of beer. A cavernous dining/drinking area which surely could accommodate +500 moustachioed, beer swilling Germans. Excellent food, quick service - I am VERY tempted to come back tomorrow night for some weizen guzzling, thigh slapping fun.

Check out my review of Gröninger Braukeller - I am ahunter - on Qype

Qype: Knust in Hamburg

Hamburg - Pubs & Bars - Pubs - Nightlife - Music Venues

A really decent venue which is only a 5 minute walk from my house! Lots of famous bands pass through Knust and i'm sure the right acts arouse an awesome atmosphere. Unfortunately last nights band made me want to end it all right there and then. "Beach House" have got to be one of the worst bands i have ever seen. I ended up walking out of the concert and playing frisbee with some like-minded randoms outside.

But let's not take anything away from Knust. Just because Beach House sucked, this should not reflect badly on what is really quite cool venue. I'll be coming back.

Qype: The Ultimate Burger in London

London - Restaurants - Fast Food & American

I had to go to Wembley last week to watch the football. I was late and my brother and I needed a meal which we could polish off in less 15 mins. We agreed NOT to go to Mcdonalds. After much deliberation we ended up the Ultimate Burger. The staff were quick, helpful and they understood we were in a rush. I don't think the burgers are quite up to GBK or Fine Burger co., but they got us in and out in 15 mins 55 seconds. Wiping stray bit of lettuce and ketchup from our cheeks, we both agreed that the service was phenomenal, but the burgers need a bit of work.

Qype: Terminal 5 in London

London - Travel & Hotels - Airports

It looks like all the kerfuffle from 3 months ago has been put to rest as i was very impressed with T5. The airport is slick, modern and packed with great facilities. It reminds me alot of CLK in Hong Kong of Changi airport in Singapore. Security was amazingly easy (but perhaps i was just travelling at a quiet time) and the restaurants and cafes airside are great. Giraffe, Pret, Starbucks, Eat et al. can all be found in the terminal if you are looking for a quick bite to eat. There are also more "high end" places to grab a snack like Gordon Ramsay's "Plane Food".

For somebody that has a bit of a fear of flying (like me), T5 is certainly full of fun distractions to take your mind off of the flight!

Qype: Crown & Goose in London

London - Pubs & Bars - Pubs

I can't believe this pub is going to be turned into flats! This is an outrage! We went here last night after a very unsatisfactory hour or so at The Edinboro Castle. London Pride on tap, friendly bar staff and a nice mix of drinkers. Perfect.

What can we do to stop this madness!? Don't suppose anyone has a spare £3m quid lying about to save this gem in North London?

@alexhunter - Have a quiet word with Branson on Monday morning ;)

Qype: Edinboro Castle in London

London - Pubs & Bars - Pubs

Went here last night and it was so busy we couldn't actually get a drink! I took one step inside, looked at the queue at the bar and thought "hmmm... i'm probably going to have to stand here for 45 minutes" . If it wasn't for the enormous seating area outside, this place would score much lower. I'll probably go back again, but it won't be on a busy saturday night.
