London - Pubs & Bars - Pubs - Restaurants - Belgian
This was actually my first time in Belgo Centraal. I've been to Bierodrome in Clapham many a time (it's pretty much opposite my house!) and always had great fun, so i was really excited to be visiting Belgo in Covent Garden last night. We had the great pleasure of having Sam, a Belgo Beerologist, spend a good hour and half with us telling stories about the beers we were drinking, which drinks compliment which foods etc. etc. All fascinating stuff. If you're a beer enthusiast, definitely try and spend so time with Sam.
Onto the food a drink....
Starter:
I started with the Aspargus which was delicious. Perfectly cooked and the belgian beer complimented the food really nicely. It almost freshened your mouth after every mouthful preparing you for the next bite.
Main:
I was feeling hungry, so i opted for the Pork Belly main. The portion wasn't enormous, but that didn't matter. It was delicious and by the end of the meal i was FTB. Now, i'm not going to lie to you, the "Grand Cru" beer I had with the pork belly was not really up my alley. I retract my "world ending first sip" comments, but it was really powerful, extremely vinegary (almost like a salad dressing!) and really didn't sit well with me. That being said, many others around the table were guzzling the Cru with great Gusto. So i guess it's just a matter of taste.
Dessert:
Vanilla ice cream with Leffe beer drizzled over the top of it. Awesome! I know! Nuf said really. It was delicious and even though i'm not usually a Fruli drinker, it goes perfectly with a dessert like this.
All in all a fantastic evening. I was disappointed not to be going to Oktoberfest in Munich, but Belgo is definitely the next best thing if you're a beer enthusiast looking for some fun this time of year. Thanks again to Sally and Sam for a cracking evening.
